For customers requiring destruction of classified materials, we will first degauss your media then shred it. Our degausser is the HD-1T which is the NSA approved degausser for purging classified media. This two-step process of degaussing then shredding satisfies all DoD regulations and guidelines and the NIST 800-88 standards.

For customers who are interested in re-using their DLT tape media, Data Killers offers a certified degaussing service in our monitored and controlled facility. We will degauss your tape media in our HD-1T degausser which meets the DoD requirements for purging classified information on magnetic disk media up to 5000 Oersteds and magnetic tape media up to 2600 Oersteds. The HD-1T is listed on the NSA's approved degausser list for purging classified media. Our HD-1T is annually re-certified by a third party to ensure full compliance.

After, the degaussing process, Data Killers personnel can remove bar codes and repackage tapes into their plastic cases. Data Killers will issue and send a Certificate of Degauss stating that all tapes were degaussed and that the data was purged. Data Killers shall keep copies on file for five (5) years. For customers who are interested in re-using their LTO tape media or other formats, Data Killers offers a certified cleansing service in conjunction with our Boston affiliate.
